Emergency Lighting Systems

SELF-CONTAINED SOLUTIONS

Bright Source is able to supply a huge range of self-contained emergency lighting products

Including:

Standard Self Contained | Self-Test | Wired Addressable | Wireless Mesh or Dali

Products all available with either/or Ni-Cad, Lithium or Lithium Phosphate LiFeP04 batteries.

The Lithium and LiFeP04 batteries offer more power for their size, also, they have a longer life-expectancy, helping to reduce the client requirement for changing failed batteries, this in turn leads to significant cost savings in maintenance over the lifetime of the installation.

The definition of a self-contained emergency light, is a luminaire that has an on-board battery either contained within, or connected to, the luminaire. The emergency light is connected to the mains lighting circuit for monitoring purposes. On detection of loss of power to the connected mains lighting circuit, the luminaire is illuminated, powered by the on-board battery, for the chosen duration.

Standard Self-Contained

Bright Source offers a full and comprehensive range of self-contained emergency lighting products to suit all budgets. Our offering includes our own branded range, we also offer products from our industry partners and can provide products that are ICEL approved and/or kitemarked.

Bright Source can also provide converted mains fittings from the majority of luminaires contained within our mains lighting range. This will either be in the form of a plug and play emergency pack or can be hard wired and pre-flexed at our in-house factory, ensuring everything is ready for install when it arrives on site.

Self-Contained and Self-Test

A step in the right direction

Bright Source offers a wide-range of self-contained lights with a built-in self-test function. This includes the Bright Source range of emergency lighting, but also can be sourced from our industry partners, meaning we can provide ICEL endorsed and/or kitemarked products.

Testing emergency lighting is a time-consuming and expensive task, luckily there are products that can ease the workload.

Self-test luminaires carry out a monthly function test and an annual duration test, in line with BS-EN50172:2004. If a fault is identified with the luminaire, a visual indicator shows on the fitting, this is generally in the form of the charge LED indicator changing colour and/or flashing in a particular sequence. The sequence also indicates what fault has occurred.

Wired Addressable Self-Contained Systems

A way to reduce your Operational Expenditure

As a result of the relationships that exist between Bright Source and our industry partners for emergency lighting, we are able to offer a variety of addressable emergency lighting systems to suit every application.

Addressable systems are generally auto-testing, meaning each luminaire is provided with an address. Through the software contained within the system, a testing regime is programmed at the point of commissioning and the fittings will carry out a function and duration test at the specified time.

In the event of a fault occurring, a message is sent back to the front-end system, usually visible on a PC, Laptop, Mobile device etc. The address of the faulty fitting will be advised, meaning that the fault can easily be located and rectified. Depending on the system, the fittings may be visible on a map and the fault will be shown under a different colour, usually healthy fittings show green and any faults show red. These systems reduce the need for the visual checking element of the emergency lighting test and remove a high percentage of the manual intervention required. Records are generally stored within the system and are accessible if/when needed.

Note – in addition to the above testing, emergency lighting should have regular visual inspections to ensure the luminaires are free from obstruction and not affected by other physical defects that would not show up through testing of the electronics.

Wireless Self-Contained Systems

An alternative addressable system

Bright Source is able to offer choice when it comes to wireless emergency lighting systems.

An easier install option to a wired addressable system, wireless emergency lighting systems generally communicate via a mesh system, meaning all the luminaires communicate with each other, acting as both transmitter and receiver. Despite the absence of a communication cable, the mesh offers a robustness to ensure communications are maintained.

These systems offer the same features and benefits as a wired addressable system, but are particularly beneficial when installing as a retro-fit to an existing building. In this instance, the existing emergency light can be replaced without the need to introduce a communication cable, wired in a loop or radial.

DALI Self-Contained Systems

Bright Source can provide a range of DALI2 luminaires, through partners who are part of the DALI alliance.

Where DALI is being used to provide a control system for the mains lighting, it is also possible to incorporate emergency lighting into the system. This is another option for achieving an addressable system that automatically tests, reports and records as described above.
